Innovative recruiting techniques and exceptional staff onboarding by Breckland Council has been recognised by the Local Government Chronicle awards panel who have shortlisted the district council for a prestigious national award.

Since 2020 the Council has introduced a host of new processes to ensure talented individuals are recruited and welcomed within the organisation, which serves over 500 sq. miles across Norfolk. When joining the organisation, new staff members can now access a bespoke digital platform, receive a welcome pack and take part in a 'meet-and-greet' with senior staff.  Recruits using the digital platform can watch videos from the senior management team sharing their vision for the organisation, a video tour of the newly refurbished offices and an introduction to agile working practices.

New starters within the organisation have praised the new processes, with 100% of new staff stating the onboarding digital platform was useful in helping them settle in and start within the organisation. The Council has also implemented a new recruitment strategy which includes using social media recruitment videos starring Council staff which explain new roles and development opportunities within this progressive organisation.

Cllr Alison Webb, Executive Member for Customer and Corporate Services at Breckland Council, commented: "The LGC award nomination recognises our innovative approach to recruiting new staff in a competitive market for new talent. I am delighted to see our targeted marketing campaigns and staff induction processes are securing talented individuals to serve our residents across Breckland."
