06/09/2023: Chairman charity walk raises over £450 for hospice

A sponsored walk by the Chairman of Breckland Council has raised over £450 for Swaffham & Litcham Home Hospice, a Breckland charity which offers invaluable care and support to individuals facing cancer and terminal illnesses in the Swaffham area.

Cllr Peter Wilkinson, Chairman of Breckland Council organised a sponsor walk around the picturesque village of Narborough in Breckland, which also heralded the start to his fundraising and awareness campaign for two charities, SANDS UK and Swaffham & Litcham Hospice during his term of office.

The Chairman's charity walk, held on 2 September, included officers and Members of Breckland Council, and took in a visit to the 19th century Narborough bone mill and lunch at the local Narborough Museum. Through their collective efforts the walkers managed to raise an impressive sum of over £450, which will go directly towards supporting the hospices vital work. During the walk, Cllr Peter Wilkinson was also joined by special guests, Sir Samuel and Lady Georgie Roberts, CEO of Swaffham & Litcham Home Hospice.

Swaffham & Litcham Home Hospice offers comprehensive support and reassurance to approximately 250 patients and their families every year. Their compassionate team works tirelessly in collaboration with NHS partners to provide free services to those in need. This includes eight dedicated part-time staff and a remarkable group of over fifty volunteers.


Cllr Peter Wilkinson expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the charity walk, saying, "I am deeply touched by the outpouring of support from our community for this important cause. The generosity of those who donated to our cause will help Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice continue their invaluable work in helping those most in need. Together, we can all make a significant difference in the lives of those facing serious illnesses, ensuring that they receive the care and comfort they deserve."
