Daniel Connal Partnership (DCP), in association with Breckland Council, have proudly announced it has won a prestigious Norfolk Design & Craftsmanship Award (DCA). The esteemed accolade, received in the Community category, celebrates the outstanding achievement in converting Thetford's Elm House into temporary accommodation for up to 35 residents.

Elm House's transformation represents a Norfolk housing success story. The project has taken an empty building, which had previously been a school, and transformed it into a sustainable housing solution. The refurbished building is now enriching the surrounding community and housing local families, couples and single residents in need of temporary housing care within Breckland.

The scheme was designed to ensure that the emergency housing being provided at the site is safe and suitable for residents. The judging panel noted the emphasis on community engagement and consideration during the construction stages of the project and continuous support from the wider community. Since opening in 2022, the scheme has supported over one hundred households whilst longer term housing solutions were being found.

"We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award, recognising our collaborative efforts with Breckland Council in revitalising Elm House," remarked John Read at Daniel Connal Partnership. "This achievement underscores our commitment to sustainable architecture and community-focused projects."

Councillor Paul Hewett, Executive Member at Breckland Council expressing his delight at the recognition, remarked, "The transformation of Elm House is a testament to innovation, addressing local needs, and fostering a sustainable living environment. This project has not only revitalized a derelict building but has also made a substantial positive impact on our community."
