9 June 2024: Thetford River 2K/5K Walk/Run

Join us on a route that explores part of the River Little Ouse including Nuns Bridges and Kingfisher Lakes, or you could opt for the shorter distance towards Kingfisher Lakes then back to the start at Thetford Riverside.  This event is suitable for walkers and runners, including accompanied children.  Sorry, but not wheelchair or double buggy accessible.

The start/finish will be at Thetford Riverside where there'll also be gazebos, parasols and space for a picnic (we'll be providing free sandwiches and drinks).  Bring a chair or a picnic blanket and stay awhile to socialise..

Registration is from 11am and the walk/run itself starts at 12 noon.  Lunch will be ready for all participants at 1pm.

The route itself is straightforward; out and back, with just one minor road to cross and using a mixture of paved and off road paths.  This  event is suitable for all ages, including the use of single buggies but, because we're following the river, anyone under 16 years of age must always be kept within arm's length of an adult.  There'll be a medal for all finishers, too.

If an adult is taking part simply to accompany an under 16 and does not want a medal, running number or time, you can take part free of charge.  Simply book your junior runner(s) in, then turn up on the day.  If the accompanying adult wants their own bling, and food and drink, then please also sign up.

On the day keep an eye out not only for swans, ducks and geese, but also for kingfishers and storks, and maybe the occasional splash of a fish or even an otter.

We are working with the Brecks Fen Edge Rivers and Landscape Partnership (BFER) team with the aim of demonstrating how our river is a fabulous community asset under their "Healing Waters" banner.

We are also celebrating volunteering, following Volunteers' Week. Tickets available here. (opens new window)
