17/05/24: Thetford to gain new restaurant and supermarket
Foodies in Thetford will soon be able to enjoy a brand-new restaurant and supermarket as renovation works are set to be complete over the coming months.
The new 7 Pecados restaurant will serve up authentic Portuguese food from the Thetford Riverside Leisure Complex, on Anchor Place, which is owned and managed by Breckland Council. It will replace the former Dough and Co and Burger Amour restaurants.
Situated next to The Light Cinema, the restaurant aims to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where families and friends can gather to enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine. This will not only improve Thetford's dining options but also supports Breckland Council's vision of fostering a vibrant, diverse, and thriving community.
The owners of the restaurant are also set to open a new supermarket over the river on Minstergate, transforming the former Wilko shop into a supermarket featuring a deli, bakery, and butchers.
Both the vacant shop and Riverside Complex are owned by Breckland Council, which has reached a deal to rent the sites to the restaurant and supermarket operators.
Cllr Paul Hewett, Executive Member for Property, Projects and Procurement, said: "Reaching an agreement to rent out these spaces will further contribute to our vision of a vibrant and dynamic Thetford, supporting business growth and bringing new experiences and opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy."
Cllr Hazel McCambridge, ward member for Thetford Castle, commented: "The new premises on Minstergate offer an exciting opportunity for residents, enhancing local shopping options and creating job opportunities. We look forward to seeing the transformation over the coming months."
Cllr Christopher Harvey and Cllr David Blackbourn, ward members for Thetford Burrell, added: " The 7 Pecados restaurant on Anchor Place will help to improve Thetford's dining options, offering a diverse range of cuisine in the centre of Thetford."
The restaurant is currently on track to open in May with the shop opening to follow afterwards.
