20/08/2025: New Environmental Initiative Grants to boost local sustainability efforts

Eco grants

Breckland Council is launching a new Environmental Initiative Grant to support local community groups, charities, and schools in making a real difference to the district's environment. The grant, developed in partnership with Serco, aligns with the council's Working Smarter 2035 corporate theme, which focuses on sustainability, climate action, and environmental protection.

Grants of £250, £500, or £1,000 will be available for projects that improve local green spaces, protect wildlife, or promote positive behavioural changes in response to climate change. The application window opened on Monday, 18 August, and will close on Friday, 12 September, with successful applications announced in time for World Sustainability Day on Wednesday, 29 October.

Councillor Helen Crane, Breckland Council's Executive Member for Sustainability, said: "We are committed to supporting grassroots initiatives that protect and enhance Breckland's environment. These grants will empower local groups to take action, whether that's through conservation projects, community-led clean-ups, or educational initiatives that inspire sustainable living. By working together, we can create a greener, cleaner future for our district."

David Head, Serco Breckland Contract Manger, said: "We are delighted to launch this environmental initiative in partnership with Breckland Council. These grants will enable our local communities to deliver projects that will make a real difference to the environment today and into the future."

This initiative is part of Breckland Council's wider strategy to build a more sustainable district, ensuring that future generations can enjoy thriving natural spaces. Applicants must be based in Breckland, with community groups, charities, and schools all encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to bring their environmental projects to life. A full list of eligible organisations is available on our website.
