The Council’s Housing Services are provided by the Strategic Housing team, based at Dereham.
We are committed to providing an excellent service to everyone seeking advice and assistance on a wide range of housing matters, and working closely with our partner organisations to ensure affordable housing is available for those who need it.

Breckland’s Housing Register – where people apply for social housing, is changing. From 2 July 2007 it will no longer be run by Peddars Way Housing Association. ARP Trading Ltd have been awarded the contract to administer the Register from this date.
Breckland Council provide housing advice to anyone. Our advisors can give assistance with a wide range of housing problems, including:
- how to prevent loss of accommodation
- mortgage and rent arrears
- relationship breakdown
- rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants, and many more…..
The Council has a duty to assist people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Our first priority is to try and prevent people becoming homeless, so it is vital we are contacted as early as possible when a housing problem occurs….
The Council does not own any ‘council housing’ in Breckland. All the social housing in the district is managed by housing associations. The main landlord is Peddars Way Housing Association (click here to go to their website - http://www.flagship-housing.co.uk ). Breckland Council operates a rent and deposit loan scheme to help people threatened with homelessness access accommodation in the private rented sector.
Breckland Council has joined with Forest Heath and East Cambridgeshire Councils to form the Anglia Revenues Partnership (click here to go to their website). This section gives basic advice about Housing Benefit.
The Council’s Enabling role is to use its various powers to aid other agencies, particularly housing associations and developers to provide new affordable housing.

The Council’s Private Sector Housing team provides advice, assistance and enforcement on matters such as unfitness, disrepair and overcrowding in private sector occupied or rented dwellings including houses in multiple occupation, energy efficiency, caravan sites and movable dwellings and gypsy and traveller issues.
Information on the three new Tenancy Deposit Protection schemes, introduced on 6th April 2007.
Grants for renovating and repairing houses and for adapting a dwelling for a disabled person.

A forum of housing providers and support organisations who meet regularly to review and improve policies, strategies and practice relating to our homelessness and housing advice services.
A forum of private landlords and agents who meet to discuss issues, receive information and inform our work in the private rented sector. We are currently looking for new members, so go to this section and register your interest!
Our Community Liaison Officer works with the minority ethnic population of Breckland to ensure equal opportunities.
