The Draft Breckland Design Guide

Well-designed, thriving places where people are happy is at the core of the Council's values and objectives and to meet these objectives the Council has prepared the Draft Breckland Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document. The Draft Breckland Design Guide was prepared with the help of many local stakeholders who contributed to its content.

The Draft Breckland Design Guide provides guidance to developers and their agents on what is expected in the design of their schemes and provides a tool to enable planning officers to turn down badly designed development. It is a district-wide design guide, so covers both market towns and villages, and it gives guidance on those design issues which are considered the most important to Breckland's residents. It also acts as a template for Neighbourhood Planning Groups to develop their own guidance based on those design issues which are most relevant to them at a local level, as well as a template for developing further guidance on specific issues or character areas.

The  Draft Breckland Design Guide (PDF) [35MB] (opens new window) is intended to be used together with the  Breckland Landscape and Settlement Character Assessment (PDF) [39MB] (opens new window) which was completed last year.

We are keen to hear your views on the Draft Breckland Design Guide and we have provided ashort questionnaire (opens new window).
